EU legal guarantee notice
From 27 September 2026, everyone selling goods to consumers in the EU must display the EU harmonised notice on the legal guarantee in their online store. We help you get it right: placement, language, accessibility and the fine print.
What the requirement means
From 27 September 2026, everyone selling goods to consumers in the EU must display a standardised notice on the legal guarantee. The notice reminds the customer that goods bought in the EU always come with a legal guarantee of at least two years. The European Commission has decided exactly what it looks like, and it may not be changed: not the text, not the graphic, not the QR code. It exists in all 24 EU languages and applies both in store and online. It is not a new guarantee, just a reminder of rights the customer already has. If you want to read the legal text, the directive is EmpCo (2024/825) and the design is set out in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960.
Our reading: how it must be shown in an online store
The Commission's practical guidelines from April 2026 are clear on most points. This is how we read them for a typical online store:
How we solve it
We review your purchase flows and point out where the notice needs to be. Then we build it into your existing platform and design, whether you run Centra, Shopify, WooCommerce or something else. The official Commission files are used unmodified, with verified checksums. The customer's country decides whether the notice is shown and in which language, the link works with keyboard, touch and screen readers, and the Swedish three-year supplement is included where needed. The order confirmation is often your own responsibility via your e-commerce system or email tool, but we provide the material and wording.
Så bygger vi e-handelDoes it apply to us?
If you sell physical goods to consumers in any EU country, yes. It does not matter where the company is based or which platform the store is built on. If you only sell to businesses, or only digital services, this particular requirement does not apply. If you also offer your own commercial durability guarantee of more than two years at no extra cost, there is a separate EU label, GARAN, to be shown per product. We help with that too, but it is a separate track.
