Two brands, one platform
— headless e-commerce
for Sagaform

Sagaform e-commerce website

Sagaform is a Swedish design company rooted in Gothenburg that has been creating household products where form meets function since 1996. Under the Byon brand, they offer a more design-driven collection aimed at a design-conscious audience. Two distinct brands with entirely different identities — but with the same need for a modern, cost-effective e-commerce solution.

Challenge

Sagaform had outgrown its custom-built CMS solution. The platform was costly to maintain, heavy to administer and difficult to evolve. It was time to move to a modern, service-based technical platform — both to reduce costs and to future-proof the entire digital presence.

At the same time, Sagaform had a strong design brand that couldn't be compromised. Byon, with its more modern and design-driven identity, added further requirements for the new platform to carry entirely different visual expressions without sacrificing experience or performance.

The challenge was clear: move from a custom-built solution to a modern composable architecture, give both brands their own digital homes, and cut operational costs in half.

Our role

We took full ownership of the project — from strategy and design to development and launch. Based on Sagaform's existing brand identities, we designed new Figma mockups for both stores and translated them into a shared technical platform. In five months, we built, tested and launched two full-scale e-commerce stores across four markets.

The collaboration continues. We're currently extending the platform with an engraving solution that lets customers personalize selected products directly in the purchase flow.

One codebase, two identities

The core of the solution is a shared Next.js codebase with a theme-based architecture layer. Sagaform and Byon share the same technical platform — including a shared Centra instance for e-commerce functionality — but present themselves with entirely different visual identities.

This means a bug fix, performance optimization or new feature developed in the codebase automatically benefits both stores. The efficiency of maintaining a single codebase instead of two separate solutions was a decisive factor in the cost savings.

From hours to minutes

With Storyblok as CMS, Sagaform's editors got an entirely new workflow. Content management that previously took hours is now done in minutes. The visual editing interface makes it easy to preview changes instantly, without waiting for builds or deployments.

Four markets

The platform was launched with support for four markets — Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the EU — with localized currency handling and content. Centra manages the market logic while Storyblok makes it easy to adapt content per market.

Lower costs

By choosing cost-effective, service-based platforms and modern hosting, we were able to significantly reduce Sagaform's operational costs compared to the previous solution — while future-proofing the entire technical foundation.
